VitalAire supplies several thousand patients with medical services and devices for respiratory disorders - using mobileX-Dispatch for planning.
VitalAire GmbH is a nationwide service company specialising in home respirator therapy. The wholly owned subsidiary of the French company AirLiquide is based in Norderstedt near Hamburg. Over 900 workers are employed at the VitalAire Group, including more than 400 in field service. The focus is on the supply areas of home respiratory therapy, sleep apnea therapy, long-term oxygen therapy, and monitoring.
As part of long-term oxygen therapy, VitalAire delivers medical liquid oxygen to in-home patients in special transporters. In recent years VitalAire has steadily grown its business and now supplies oxygen to several thousand patients. VitalAire supports this through a dense network of logistics points and 8 offices. From here drivers begin their routes to their (mostly weekly) appointments at private customers’ and nursing homes. Planning is conducted in regional dispatching teams.
For all other medical devices, regular maintenance procedures are performed at the patient's home in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. For this and for the relevant initial deliveries, including instructions in the devices and therapy, VitalAire uses a separate structure consisting of service technicians with cars and vans. The planning and management of assignments is performed centrally from Lünen (near Dortmund).
For efficient route planning, both areas use the graphical management and planning tool mobileX-Dispatch.
What is special about VitalAire is the fact that the technicians' vans and cars signal their position to the main office in real time. For this, the GPS Buddy XXL from the company GPS-Buddy in Belgium is used. This hardware allows planning of routes based on position data and for interventions to be made as quickly as possible when necessary. So that even unscheduled assignments can be quickly accepted, each driver always keeps a reserve of devices and materials with them in the vehicle. The driver can also obtain quick updates right from mobileX-Dispatch via the GSM module of GPS-Buddy.
mobileX-Dispatch has been in use at VitalAire since September 2009. The system has grown from 6 dispatchers initially to around 30 during the rollout and because of the growth in business. The smooth operation and reliability, including in urgent cases, are among the primary reasons for continuing to rely on mobileX-Dispatch.
