After the positive experience with mobileX solutions in Europe and Asia, AVL List has now decided to roll out the product in the USA as well. Some 70 technicians will be supplied with mobileX-MIP for Field Service and around 6 dispatchers will receive the mobileX-Dispatch tool.
AVL List is the world's largest privately owned company for development, simulation, and testing technology for powertrains for passenger cars, lorries and large engines. The Austrian company is a supplier for many globally leading automakers such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Hyundai, and many others.
AVL in Germany relies on the products mobileX-MIP for Field Service and mobileX-Dispatch from mobileX AG for commissioning, service, and maintenance of highly complex engine test benches. The graphical dispatching solution mobileX-Dispatch is already being used to manage technicians in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, India, South Korea, Japan (as previously reported).
The commissioning of an engine test bench from AVL often lasts between 3 and 4 months. AVL technicians also enter signatures in the activity confirmation along with hours worked and material consumed. Additional electronic forms are used, for example, for structured entry of data for quality assurance and control. These are digitally entered using a signature pad.
Before the final completion confirmation, partial activity confirmations are signed each week by the customer so that partial invoicing can occur. The quality data entered is automatically provided in customer-specific tables in SAP. Starting in early 2013, mobileX-MIP for Field Service and mobileX-Dispatch should also be in use in North America. Many customers of AVL have their home office in Detroit, the capital of the US auto industry. .
